The Barkindji Biosphere Reserve provides an opportunity to create a unique education and training environment for young Aboriginal people, which will enable them to remain in school and attain credits for project work that they undertake in the Reserve. At the same time, such an environment will provide them with opportunities to learn more about their cultural and environmental heritage, placing them in a strong position to gain jobs in tourism businesses associated with the Biosphere Reserve. It is planned that most guides will be from the local young Aboriginal communities, especially those from the Barkindji family groups.

In addition to opportunities in ecotourism, young people may also be able to train in land and heritage management, leading to other employment options.
