Barkindji Biosphere presents many important opportunities for research
into conservation, sustainable development, natural resource management,
and cultural and archaeological heritage. Of particular significance
is the Reserve's combination of both riverine and semi-arid environments
including intact and damaged areas. Threats to the Biosphere Reserve
include:
- loss of ecological processes
- pest plants and animals
- altered flooding regimes
- land and water salinisation
- wind erosion
- water pollution and changed environmental flows.
